JDRF Board Committee Functions

Communications Committee

The Marketing/Communications Committee shall develop annual marketing/communication and public information policies and plans for the year in collaboration with the Special Events Coordinator and activate these plans upon approval. The Marketing/Communications Committee shall be composed of three or more members, appointed annually by the chairman who is, in turn, appointed by the Board President, and who serves on the Board as a member of the Board of Directors.

Field Operations

The Field Operations Committee shall provide leadership and oversight for all chapter field operations articulating the vision and building the infrastructure in collaboration with the Executive Office staff. The Committee will assist in the development of processes to effectively analyze business conditions, relationships and markets, and to develop strategies to achieve annual goals.

Finance

The Finance Committee shall provide oversight for all of the financial activities of JDRF. The Finance Committee shall be responsible for working with the Executive Office staff and all regular and special committees in reviewing and recommending to the Board of Directors an annual budget for JDRF. The Finance Committee shall monitor all financial statements of the chapters and the Executive Office on a regular basis and shall concern itself with other financial matters of JDRF as requested by the Chairman of the Board and/or the JDRF President & CEO.

Government Relations

The Government Relations Committee shall oversee the JDRF Government Relations office and assist in the development of legislative strategies to increase federal funding for diabetes research and affect federal policies that impact diabetes research. The Government Relations Committee shall develop and recommend to the Board of Directors, for its approval, the Government Relations Programs of JDRF. The Government Relations Committee shall work with the Executive Office staff in the implementation of the JDRF Government Relations Programs.

Internet Development

The Internet Development Committee shall develop policies and provide general guidelines and oversight related to the JDRF presence on the internet, including policies related to communications involving JDRF headquarters, chapters, and affiliates, and communications among JDRF and its various internet constituencies. The Committee shall work in collaboration with the Executive Office staff.

Investment

The Investment Committee shall formulate investment guidelines for JDRF, hire outside investment managers where appropriate, and monitor investment performance on a periodic basis.

Major Donor

The Major Donor Committee shall provide leadership and oversight for fundraising activities and donor stewardship for our largest current and potential donors. The Committee shall work to maximize the Foundation’s major donor and planned giving efforts and to integrate them fully into the fabric of the Foundation’s overall fundraising plans. The Committee shall work with the Executive Office staff in the implementation of the Committee’s objectives.

Nominating

The Nominating Committee shall nominate candidates for election to the Board of Directors of JDRF by the Council of Chapters and Affiliates. It shall also present a slate of suggested officers for consideration by the Board of Directors of JDRF as well as an annual slate of nominees for the Board of Chancellors.

Public Outreach/Family Network Committee

The Public Outreach Committee and Family Network Events shall be chaired by the Chairman of Public Outreach. The Public Outreach Committee shall develop and manage both support and mentoring groups that will support families impacted with type 1. This committee will work with chapter staff to identify support needs of community, set goals to meet needs of local type 1 community, formulate plan to achieve those goals and identify and engage existing/new volunteers for outreach positions.

Research Advisory Board (To be revised)

The Research Advisory Board shall advise the Chairman of Research with regard to the research policies of JDRF, and, through the Chairman of Research, recommend such policies to the Board of Directors. The Research Advisory Board shall also be responsible for overseeing the RAB Executive Committee and three (3) subcommittees: the Medical Science Review, Lay Review & Clinical Affairs Advisory Committees which will review and recommend applications for funding diabetes research and for such other duties and functions as may be assigned by the Board of Directors of JDRF as it deems necessary, in accordance with such policies as it may adopt from time to time.
